Twenty teachers, teaching assistants and SENCO’s from schools in Surrey and West Sussex recently attended the first ever PSDS Teachers Day of lectures given by Gillian Bird from Down Syndrome Education International.
The training day took place at the award-winning Crawley Library and covered topics including teaching methods, activities and resources for successfully differentiating the curriculum (KS1), along with sessions on social development and behaviour and suggestions for creating action plans to implement in schools.
Attendees were encouraged to bring examples of work they wanted to discuss and to share best practice with the aim of continuing a dialogue between the schools after the training day.
We are currently gathering feedback from the attendees with a view to looking at further training days on specific topics (such as literacy and numeracy) if they are required and if we can secure funding for them.
