Council Chair's Support Adds Cheer

When Councillor Mary Huggins was elected Chairman of Mole Valley District Council in May 2019, she announced that PSDS would be one of the three local charities she would like to support during her term. With the assistance of a small team at the Council and help from representatives of her three charities, Councillor Huggins worked extremely hard to not only raise funds but to also raise awareness about each of her chosen causes - united by the services they provide to support children and young people in Mole Valley.

The Chairman's efforts began in earnest at a Church Service and Civic Reception in Dorking in July 2019 where some of our teenage members enjoyed serving tea and cake! Further events included a Taste of Mole Valley Lunch in association with Hill House Farm and, just before the first lockdown, a Civic Dinner and Reception at Denbies Wine Estate whose attendance included Mayors and Chairmen from other local councils.

The impact of Covid-19 and the introduction of necessary health and safety restrictions had a significant affect during the second half of the Chairman's term, with a number of events and fundraising activities having to be postponed. However, thanks to the hard work and determination of Councillor Huggins and her team, an incredible total of £11,561.19 was shared between the three charities in October, providing PSDS with funds of £3,853.73 to help keep our essential services running.

Councillor Huggins has continued in her role of MVDC Chairman for a second term and is determined to keep raising funds - and awareness - for her three charities during the months ahead, whatever form any fundraising activities may need to take!

We are so grateful to Councillor Huggins, her Support Officer, Claire Elphick, to all at MVDC who have assisted with the Chairman's charitable activities and all who have supported the Chairman's fundraising efforts so far. We are thrilled to have been chosen and recognised in such a prestigious way and for awareness about PSDS and the wonderful families we support to have been raised not only in our local communities but across the whole county.
