The Great Thames Row 2020

Exciting news! 1st Cuddington (Warspite) Sea Scouts have chosen PSDS as the charity partner for their 2020 Great Thames Row. Starting at midnight on Friday 5th June, crews will row two of the scouts' 20-foot long gigs in relay from Mapledurham Lock in Berkshire, back to Warspite's base in Thames Ditton ariving early evening on Saturday 6th June - completing a distance of approximately 50 miles along the Thames in under 24 hours.

There will be various change-over points along the route for crews to swop over, with legs varying in distance from 3 - 10 miles. Guest crews are very welcome and there will be opportunities for PSDS members and friends of PSDS to get involved - no previous rowing experience is necessary as training and support will be provided by the Warspite team.

Volunteers to drive crew members to the change-over points are also needed, along with supporters to cheer the crews on and join in the celebrations back at base when the challenge is completed.

The Warspite Sea Scouts successfully completed the same challenge in 2013 and raised a significant amount of funds which they shared with St Catherine's Hospice.

Talking about their decision to support PSDS, Group Scout Leader, Richard Hunt, said "It's very special for our two organisations to be working together as we are both committed to helping young people have the best opportunities."

A sentiment we totally agree with here at PSDS. We are really excited to be part of such a fantastic challenge - who's up for helping us make the most of this "oarsome" opportunity?
