Down Syndrome Week Fundraising All Adds Up

Coffee mornings, crazy socks, cake sales and collections...just a few of the activities which took place during Down Syndrome Awareness Week in March to raise funds for PSDS.

We are delighted that so many PSDS families and friends got involved this year, organising events at home, in their local communities, in schools and at their places of work.

The Reigate office of Willis Towers Watson, LV Croydon, The University of Surrey, Sutton Business Network International, the Neo-Natal Unit at East Surrey Hospital, Waitrose & Partners Horley, Midas Construction, IMCD Sutton and the Dorking Business Breakfast Group are amongst the local organisations and businesses who raised awareness and funds.

Many schools, pre-schools and nurseries rocked their socks or held fundraisers for PSDS too - including Oxted Secondary School, The Priory CofE School (Dorking), St Wilfrid's School (Crawley), Warren Mead Infants and Juniors (Banstead), Caterpillars Nursery (Horsham), Kingswood Primary School, Startel Day Nursery (Wallington), Barrow Hedges Primary School (Carshalton) and St Hilary's School (Godalming).

Tennis players, footballers and rugby teams put their best feet forward by training in mismatched socks and two intrepid PSDS supporters each set themselves the challenge of walking 21,000 steps. Together they clocked up over 26km and generated more than £2,000 in sponsorship.

With parents, grandparents, therapists and volunteers at our three DIGBIES early development groups and members of our after-school Drama Club getting in on the act too, the collective total raised for PSDS during Down Syndrome Awareness Week 2019 is a fabulous £13,177, a whopping 25% increase on last year's total.

This wonderful achievement represents a huge team effort and we are grateful to every single person who contributed. Whether the individual amounts raised were a few pounds, a few hundred or a thousand pounds, each donation really counts and will help to make a big difference.

We're already looking forward to rocking our socks again next year - who knows, with even more PSDS families from our growing membership getting involved, we could aim for £20,000 in 2020! Wouldn't that be toe-tally fantastic?!
