Makaton Training - November 2010

Parents, speech therapists, teachers, teaching assistants and portage tutors gathered at the offices of Thomas Eggar in Crawley on Saturday 27th November to hear inspirational and informative presentations from Julie Hughes of Down Syndrome Education International. Julie’s presentations covered practical ideas for helping to develop speech and language for children aged between 0-3 years and 4 years - school age (KS1). For the first time our Education Day was split in to two specific age-group sessions - allowing the presentations to focus on specific stages of development, each featuring a wealth of ideas of great relevance to each age group. Participants had the opportunity to chat over lunch and we are extremely grateful to Thomas Eggar for the use of their fabulous facilities and the donation towards our costs for the day. Plans are already underway for the psds Education Day 2011 and also a second training day for teaching staff next Spring. Watch this space for more details!
